GUARDING THE NATION

How prepared is this administration for hurricanes, floods, fires, avian flu, terrorist attack and any other problems that could face this nation. Preparation would include potential mobilization of the National Guard (by definition they are here to protect the nation) and their equipment. Here's how ill-prepared we are for any of these events.

The war in Iraq has depleted the National Guard of many of its troops and much of its equipment. Below are some samples of equipment that are in shor t supply.

Machine guns ---------- total 1,088 on hand 150-- % of total 14%
Lightweight rifles--------total 16,839 on hand 788-- % of total 5%
Night vision goggles ------total 127,000 on hand 1,000 --% of total 1%
Flatbed semitrailers -----total 2,287 on hand 180 -- % of total 8%
Armoured carrier humvees--total 2,240 on hand 220-- % of total 10%

Our enemies love that we are in Iraq. Our infrastructure and social programs are falling apart in this country. We lack the homeland protection of the National Guard and their equipment. We are going bankrupt while we destroy two countries. The reason I feel we have not had another terrorist attack in this country. Why waste time attacking us? Just sit back and wait for us to implode, then make your move. As each day goes by I feel safer and more secure. What next? Send our police, firemen and other first responders to Iraq.
