SO HOW ARE THINGS GOING IN THE GOOD OL' U.S. of A.?

how about it? Posted by Picasa

CULTURE OF LIFE? HOW ABOUT CULTURE OF CORRUPTION!!

  • Iraq War -- after 3 years soldiers still are without proper armour for themselves and their vehicles. The ones that bought their own armour still have not been reimbursed. $8 billion in funding for reconstruction is missing and any investigation is being thwarted by the administration. Halliburton is given no-bid contracts for most reconstruction and have been accused of overcharging.
  • Veterans of the war -- Multiple tours of duty. How many times have there been soldiers due to go home only to find out they are going stay another 6, 8, 12 months more (it's not much different than kidnapping). They get home to find out their veterens benefits have been cut, their families have been broken up and they don't have jobs. Welcome home.
  • Gulf Coast hurricanes -- Katrina hits and the President doesn't acknowledge that anything happened for 3 days. It happens that the people most in need are the least able to help themselves. Our 'compassionate conservatives' crowd them into the Superdome like a bunch of cattle with no food, water or facilities.
  • Tom Delay -- indicted on felony charges concerning campaign contributions.
  • Karl Rove -- outing CIA agent Valerie Plame for political revenge.
  • Bill Frist -- under investigation for insider trading. His out is that it was in a blind trust and he had no way of knowing what was being done with his money. Blind trust is what this administration wants us to have . . . or at least blind faith.

ECONOMY IS GOING TO THE DOGS

Consider that a can of Alpo is now selling for $.99 a can. That's $7.00 in dog money. But on an up note the secret to a long life has been discovered. Just keep breathing. Happy AUTUMN!!!

MAXED OUT CREDIT ? NOT FOR OUR GOVERNMENT

Can the federal governement afford to pay for all our disasters . . . Iraq, Katrina, Rita, tax cuts for the wealthy, highway pork projects and most of all Bush, the cause of the aforementioned disasters? The answer is HELL NO!!! So we're going to borrow it from the central banks of China and Japan.

It seems this administration doesn't use the same math and budget that the average household must. With your average household budget you are limited by banks and credit card companies with how much debt you can get screwed with. It's somewhat disciplined. The government just spends and borrows, spends and borrows, borrows and spends. We're the schmucks getting screwed, so why should they care. Take care of our upper income buddies and all will be well . . . for them.

The fact that Congress is preparing to cut a variety of taxes by up to $90 billion over five years at the same time Katrina, not to mention Rita and whatever else is out there over the balance of the two months left in hurricane season, is going to send spending through the roof is living proof of that. They figured a way to help cover some of those tax cuts . . . trim social programs like Medicaid and food stamps by $35 billion over 5 years, even as Bush is pledging to spend 'what it takes' to help poor people affected by Katrina. If you think at all and are aware of this administration's priorities, all they want is to get the money under any pretense and figure out how to put it where they want it after they've got it.

Iraq, Katrina and Rita have created the Physical "perfect storm". We're on the brink of a financial/economic "perfect storm" that will be at least as devastating. And this guy has over two more years to play President.

DON'T MESS WITH MOTHER NATURE !!!

There was a commercial that ran on national television about thirty or so years ago. I think it was for margarine. Anyway when they discussed adding an ingredient to the recipe that apparently wasn't to be implied as natural, a princess-like woman would appear and wave her wand and tersely say "DON'T MESS WITH MOTHER NATURE" causing lightning and thunder depicting the force of mother nature. Well, it seems we may have been messing with mother nature.

STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE USING SMOKE AND MIRRORS

President Bush said Friday that rebuilding the Gulf Coast would "cost whatever it costs," that he would not raise taxes to pay for the recovery and that at least some of the expense would have to be offset by cuts in other programs.

Shooting from the lip again the President shoots out a 'number' with no specifics other than to say it will be paid for by cutting other programs. Isn't that kind of how Katrina was able to do this much damage. By ignoring global warming, underfunding the reinforcement of the levees and development of wetlands that would act as a buffer against hurricanes and tropical storms. Basically, the cuts in programs that are helping fund the war in Iraq are causing our homeland insecurity.

So the Gulf Coast is now to become the new Iraq. Put Karl Rove in charge of reconstruction, give no-bid contracts to Halliburton and put a pretty face on the whole quagmire. As with Iraq and what they pass off as progress -- an example would be the elections earlier this year and all the purple fingers. That's like touting that you have given every Iraqi a cell phone, but the fact that there are no towers to make the phones function is never mentioned.

Why the Gulf Coast might go better than the Gulf War if this country wakes up --
Bush and his administration have been exposed. As New York Times op-ed columnist, Frank Rich wrote, "Once Toto parts the curtain, the Wizard of Oz can never be the wizard again. He is forever Professor Marvel, blowhard and snake-oil salesman. Hurricane Katrina, which is likely to endure in the American psyche as long as L. Frank Baum's mythic tornado, has similarly unmasked George W. Bush."

Unless you are woefully uninformed what's been exposed is his rampant cronyism, the lack of compassion for the poor; as his mother showed at the Astrodome in all her "compassionate conservatism"; the use of spin, photo-ops and press conferences to coverup failures. Even his speech on Friday,, taking full responsibility for the Katrina debacle, has a feeling of spin to it. Rove saw lemons and just figured "let's make lemonade". I think Rove found that there's a money-making opportunity here and if Bush has to admit his first mistake to take advantage of it, so be it.

Consider that this administration can't handle what's happening in Iraq and obviously fell on their face concerning the Gulf Coast and that the cost of those debacles are going to be about four to 6 billion dollars. That stretches us dangerously thin, especially with the fraud and ineptness of this administration to handle a situation. If these were the only problems facing us we'd still be in trouble but . . .

We still face a potential terrorist attack. I think the reason we haven't been hit is the terrorists see us self-destructing. A busy fire season may be in store for the West due to drought and governors in several states have raised concerns over the National Guard's long-term overseas deployments. Guardsmen have been used to fight fires. Plus there is one threat that could affect us all. The potential threat of an avian bird flu pandemic. The good news is that they believe they have found the vaccine to thwart it. The bad news is they are not making enough to take care of the whole country. Katrina was in one part of the country and those who were able ran from it and those other good hearts donated to their relief. A pandemic leaves no where to run other than to get vaccinated. If there is no vaccine we are in the same position as those poor souls with no means of getting out of harms way in New Orleans. I wish us luck. Good or bad it seems eventually that's all we're going to be left with.

HOW MANY FEMAs ARE OUT THERE UNDER THIS ADMINISTRATION?

Let's count a few:

Environmental Protection Agency -- there have been a number of senior officials in the EPA that have left in protest over Bush's unwillingness to enforce environmental law. Hugh Kaufman, senior policy analyst in the agency's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response said, "The budget has been cut and inept political hacks have been put in key positions."

Federal Drug Administration -- Serious questions have been raised concerning the agency's coziness with drug companies. The agency's top official in charge of women's health issues resigned over the delay in approving Plan B, the morning-after pill, accusing the agency's head of overruling the professional staff on political grounds.

Corporation for Public Broadcasting -- Its republican chairman hired a consultant to identify liberal bias in its programs. The consultant saw any criticism of the administration as a sign of liberalism even from conservatives.

Here's a snapshot of Bush's environmental record since 2000:

  • Percent drop in federal lawsuits for environmental violations : 75
  • Percent increase in permits for oil and gas drilling on federal lands: 75
  • Annual savings to industry from Bush's refusal to mandate lead-paint cleanup: $3,000,000,000
  • Percent decline in federal fines against industrial polluters: 60
  • Years since number of fines has been so low: 14
  • Percent decline in federal Superfund cleanup of toxic waste: 52
  • Acres of untouched forests opened to developers: 58,500,000
  • Endangered species that live in these areas: 220
  • Species added to the endangered list by Bush: 31
  • Species added by Bush's father: 228
  • Acres designated as wilderness by the Bush administration: 530,000

Add to this the fact that 75% of first-responders to the 9/11 catastrophe are either ill or dead due to being ill-equipped with safety equipment from environmental hazards. The same thing is going on in New Orleans and unfortunately, as we have seen, in Iraq. This administration cares nothing about us and everything about lining their pockets and the pockets of friends.

Acres designated by Ronald Reagan: 10,600,000

HOUSING BUBBLE

In an article in U.S. News and World Report this week the National Association of Home Builders said that "builders still remain upbeat and confident in the housing market" and added that "builder attitudes suggest that new-home sales and starts will continue to be brisk." On the other hand many executives in the home-building sector are dumping their company stock at a record rate. Over the past ten months, insider selling has reached peak levels at 8 of 12 large publicly traded home-building companies, according to Richard Bernstein, chief U.S. strategist for Merrell Lynch. And that's despite the fact that most Wall Street analysts have "buy" recommendations on those shares. One thing to consider, though, is that within a year of the Internet's bubble bursting in 2000, there was record net insider selling at 14 of 20 large tech firms according to Bernstein. Hmmm.

MOMMY YOU'RE MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO PLAY PRESIDENT -- you can't be so honest

who's your mamma Posted by Picasa

MAMA AND HER COLLEGE BOYS

Barbara Bush, the President's mother said; while touring the Astrodome, where thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims have been sheltered, Barbara Bush said they didn't have it so bad because, heck, they were poor to begin with. "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas," she was quoted as saying in an interview on National Public Radio.

"Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," Bush said. "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."

This makes it easier to understand why her son is so disconnected with the country he is supposed to be leading. Her son and his cronies are playing a game of government with this country. You've got two big oil guys at the top. You've got unflinching loyalty on the way down. If you're not loyal, you're gone . . . Richard Clarke, General Eric Shinseki, most recently Bunnatine Greenhouse, etc.

How arrogant and reckless can you get? You've got Halliburton in Iraq draining the money funded for rebuilding. Now you've got the head of FEMA, Mike 'Brownie'Brown, who is in the job because he was the room mate of the previous head of FEMA. This disaster happens, he has no clue what to do, you find out that he has no experience in the field he is in. The head of the agency that is to protect us from natural disaster has no experience in the field.

They just appropriated $10.5 billion last week and another $40 billion this week. And they want to put all the money in the hands of, guess who? FEMA. Halliburton already has no-bid contracts to rebuild the gulf coast. I can't believe the arrogance of this group. But I will say this: if they are not stopped they are going to take this as far as we let them. And it might take a revolt to stop them.

The world is watching us right now and we look like a nation of idiots. Remember the way the world reacted when this guy was re-elected, which I dispute for a second time. Most of this administration was on vacation when this happened and they sure didn't high-tail it back when the nation was in crisis. They just come back after it's all over and spin their way out of it. If they can spin their way out of this one we deserve it. We're like the battered wife who won't leave her husband.

In closing, I believe that what's wrong with this country can be corrected with what's right with this country. This administration is dead, dangerously wrong. The American people are proving through their generosity what's right with this country. We need an immediate divorce.

Y'all Don't Stuff Yerself Now

Picture worth a thousnd words Posted by Picasa

THEY CAN'T SAY THEY DIDN'T EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN

The headline read: "Direct hit in New Orleans could mean a modern Atlantis." The first paragraph of the story read: "More than 1.2 million people in New Orleans were warned to get out Tuesday as the 140-mph hurricane churned toward the gulf coast, threatening to submerge this below-sea-level city in what could be the most disastrous storm to hit in nearly 40 years." That was USA Today and the only catch was -- the piece had been written on September 14, 2004 as huricane Ivan seemed to be barrelling toward New Orleans.

This was referred to as the "Atlantis Scenario". Now you've got Bush coming out and saying they couldn't have expected this to happen. If that is the case we are truly being governed by idiots or evildoers.

The war in Iraq is finally showing what I knew we were giving up to fund this war, conflict, game or whatever they want to call it. You can't give tax cuts and finance a war without taking the money from somewhere. Infrastructure, health benefits, veterans benefits, environmental programs, etc., etc. It's instances like this storm that will teach a lesson, hopefully not too late.

The lesson being that you can't underfund something like the shoring up of these levees in hopes that the perfect storm will not come. Because as we now see the old adage 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure' becomes glaringly apparent. Whatever it may cost to fix this problem will be tenfold more than what it would have cost to prevent it. And we still have to wait to see what it cost in lives.

If this guy stays in office for the balance of his term he is going to have so much blood on his hands his legacy will probably be known as "THE VAMPIRE PRESIDENCY".

HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH -- this administration is increasing your likelihood of dying

Do you have an overwhelming feeling of doom and gloom? I do.

Analogy -- You have five children. You spend a pretty sum of money to send them to a boarding school. You expect they will be well cared for. You get a call one day that one of the children is missing. But don't worry. We have everything under control and know exactly where your child is being held, and are in the process of retrieving him. Two weeks go by and nothing. Then after three weeks you get a call. Uh, another child is missing. So, here's your decision -- Do I change schools for their incompetence? They keep telling me they are on the case and it would be a wrong idea to change schools since they have been working on the case of the missing children and have all the information needed to find them and it would be a bad idea to change horses mid-stream. Whether this was a boarding school, caregiver, teacher, whatever -- I would have to fire you after you lost one of my children.

My point is that this administration has no concern for the majority of this country outside of the context of how we benefit them and their agenda. And believe me their agenda puts us way down on the food chain. Their actions and inactions speak volumes, but they are falling on deaf ears . . . until now, I hope.

Remember, the same guys that are running the debacle in Iraq are the same ones that are going to be responsible for New Orleans and the rest of the gulf coast. Example: Halliburton being given no-bid contracts to rebuild New Orleans.

Consider that just last week Bunnatine Greenhouse, chief overseer of contracts for the Army Corps of Engineers, was fired for 'poor job performance'. She has worked in military procurement for 20 years. Her demotion removes her from the elite Senior Executive Service and reassigns her to a lesser job in the corps' civil works division.

Greenhouse's lawyer, Michael Kohn, called the action an "obvious reprisal" for the strong objections she raised in 2003 to a series of corps decisions involving the Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg Brown & Root, which has garnered more than $10 billion for work in Iraq.

"She is being demoted because of her strict adherence to procurement requirements and the Army's preference to sidestep them when it suits their needs," Kohn said.He also said the Army violated a commitment to delay Greenhouse's dismissal until the completion of an inquiry by the Pentagon's inspector general.

Unless this guy is removed from office the gulf coast is going to become the new feeding trough to replace Iraq or help fund Iraq as that funding has caused the predicament in New Orleans. Pardon my French but if he stays WE ARE FUCKED!!!!!!!!!!

WE NEED TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE ---- THIS ADMINISTRATION SURE ISN'T GOING TO !!

THE FACTORY WILL BE ARRIVING IN THE GULF COAST SOON

coming soon to the gulf coast Posted by Picasa

Wake Up Call -- we have idiots leading this country

We are safer now than before we went to Iraq says the idiot that we have in the White House.

Think about this. What if this was a terrorist attack? Don't you feel safer knowing that they couldn't get it together even though they were warned about this attack coming.

On Sunday, while Bush was vacationing in Crawford, the warnings were ominous. There is a category five hurricane bearing down on the gulf coast. The levies that keep New Orleans from being flooded are able to withstand a category three. Now the images coming from the gulf coast look like images from a third world country. This president should be proud of his response. This morning he has a press conference, saying we're working hard, sending millions of gallons of water and millions of tons of food. WHAT? Talk about shooting from the lip.

We've got news reporters on the ground reporting about this. Harry Connick, Jr. wanders the streets with camera crew to assess the damage. And we can't get doctors, medicine, water, the national guard into the area. It's been four days with no response to a disaster in our own country. When I was in the national guard in the sixties I was called out every year from '66 to '71 and you can mobilize units in a matter of hours. So there's no excuse for this delay.

The president is on his way to tour the area. As he says, "I'm looking forward to going down and touring the area." He makes it sound like he's going to tour an area in search of the ideal picnic area. I don't believe that this president cares about anything beyond his immediate family and friends. If this doesn't tell you how he would respond to a terrorist attack, I don't know what will.

They just appropriated $10.1 billion in aid for the area. How many no-bid contracts do you think Halliburton is going to get to rebuild the area. I think they will be getting many contracts and the rebuilding process will be wrought with fraud just like Iraq. Does anyone still really think that this isn't the most evil, uncaring administration that this country has ever had. If this guy doesn't face impeachment we are doomed. If we ever needed true, caring, honest, American leadership it is now. Instead we have a bumbling idiot.

Please send this guy to lead our enemy. That's when I'll feel safer!
