MARRIAGE EQUALITY AND THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT
There is a build up on the 'christian right' against marriage equality with the argument that the bible says that it's against christian doctrine. For starters there is a separation of church and state. Marriages officially happen at a 'city hall' and require a marriage license then according to whatever religion you belong to you can go to a church and enjoy the religious ceremony. So, if I have my facts right a couple can get married in a civil/secular ceremony and they are legally married. If a church refuses to perform the religious ceremony so-be-it they are still married under the law. Separation of church and state has been satisfied.
Now let's go to the bible. Claims are made that the bible says marriage must be between one man and one woman. I believe that the only place you will find this is in Leviticus. If you read Leviticus it's a little wacky - actually a lot of wacky. If you follow Leviticus -- misbehaving children are dealt with by killing them -- same with eating shellfish, wearing two different fabrics in your clothing, etc. Go to this link for info on Leviticus.
